Wild grapes foraged from mountain forests in Meskheti, some vines more than 400 years old
Working in the historic region of Meskheti, Giorgi Natenadze is helping preserve one of the world's most extraordinary viticultural traditions.
Few winemakers anywhere in the world work the way he does, searching remote mountain forests for wild grapevines climbing high into the trees and harvesting fruit from plants that have grown naturally and remained hidden for centuries.
Many of these vines are between 100 and 200 years old, while some are more than 400 years old and still producing grapes today.
By identifying, protecting and vinifying fruit from these remarkable plants, Giorgi is helping safeguard a living piece of Georgia's viticultural heritage.
